      Painting

Emilio Grossi's paintings are the product of his studies with color theory artist Josef Albers and other teachers he was associated with, his architectural training from I. M. Pei, the influence of Precisionism, and the ongoing accumulation of ideas from other, usually contemporary, visual artists. He pursued a parallel artistic career in photography but whereas his photographs are nuanced and sensitive to his subject matter, his paintings are handsome but rigidly controlled graphic exercises in geometry, often abstract, in flat, mainly primary colors, and in perspective. Only towards the end of his life did his interest in the work of the Icelandic painter, Louisa Matthíasdóttir, begin to bring the organic quality of nature into his work.
